PLUS Model Mag First Ever Model Search
PLUS Model Magazine is launching its first Model Search at the Love Your Body Day event in LA on 24th October, 2009.
They are looking for models local to the West Coast area who are not signed with an agency and are between size 10 and 18, height 5′7″ to 6′0″ and ages 18 to 25. Five finalists will be chosen and compete for the ultimate prize.
The winner will receive:
- A 1 year exclusive contract with Brand Model & Talent Agency.
- Campaign with Hips and Curves.
- The cover and editorial of PLUS Model Magazine.
The judges will be sending tips to you so that you are prepared for the Model Search on 24th October, 2009. Details on how to apply for this Model Search will be sent to all PLUS Model Magazine readers through their newsletter, so do sign up if you are interested!

Love Your Body Day 2009
Hollywood NOW “Love Your Body Day,” is a community celebration to promote healthy body image for women of all ages and to combat the negative portrayals of women and girls in mainstream entertainment, fashion, cosmetics, media and advertising.
This year marks the fourth year of the event and it has grown to an entire weekend of festivities. Including a launch party, comedy show, and panel discussion!

Full Figured Women Unite

This unique event, the first ever of it’s kind in Canada will be held on the 13th and 14th of September, 2008.
The Fuller Woman Expo aims to help fight the stigma that surrounds being a plus size woman. The goals behing the show is to empower, educate and motivate curvy women, in an effort to make them aware of their internal and external beauty.

See 'Fat Pig'
If you live in the Salem, Oregon area, then you might be interested in going to see Neil LaBute’s latest play entitled ‘Fat Pig’ which opened last week at the Salem Repertory Theatre. As the StatemanshJournal.com reports, LaBute chose this title precisely to make us feel guilty just by saying the name of the play, and therefore getting us into the whole mood of the play. Director by Rhett Luedtke this play toys with our sympathies, engages our emotions and keeps us off balance in this romantic comedy/drama about an uncertain young man and his plus-size girlfriend.
This play will be showing until 2nd March, 2008. Find out more about it and purchase tickets for the show if you’re interested. I’d love to go and watch, but obviously I am way out of the area. FatGirl Speaks: Event in Oregon
If you’re a plus size woman interested in size positive activism, and will happen to be around the Portland, Oregon area in June, I suggest you keep on reading.
A size-positive fat activist event called FatGirl Speaks will be held on June 9th. This events looks like it’s very unique and it includes performances from strong full figured women. Martini Mondays with the Voluptuous Woman Company
The Voluptuous Woman Company has teamed up with Fresh Start Day Spa to present curvy ladies with Martini Mondays at Liv Night Club. Martini and Manicures Monday will be held on Monday, May 14th and Monday, May 21st. This club is located at 11th and U Street NW, upstairs from the Bohemian Caverns Restaurant.

Chenese Lewis on Dr. Phil
Chenese Lewis, the first woman ever to be crowned Miss Plus America, will tomorrow Friday, 4th May be on the Dr. Phil show!
The title of the show is “Overweight and Forgotten.” In the second segment of the show Chenese will be giving advice to a plus-size woman who is interested in plus size modeling and participating in pageants but has a lack of support from her boyfriend who constantly criticizes her and thinks she needs to lose weight.

An Evening of Full-figured Fashion, Entertainment and Fun

Plus Size and Curvy Girl Band
Unfortunately my weekend away was cut short as I fell ill on Saturday night! Oh well, at least I tried to relax. So after sleeping away until mid-afternoon today, I hopped online to catch up on the latest happenings within the plus size world. I must say there was a good amount of news to catch up on!
The following is definitely great and exciting news for the UK plus size community. We’ve all heard, and seen on TV, music companies searching for talented candidates to create a boy band, or girl band. Well there’s a search going on in the UK right now to create a girl band, though this search has a twist! The organizers are looking to create the UK’s biggest girl band, literally! The talented girls they are searching for need to be at least a size 16!
This is a great and commendable initiative, that I hope flourishes. So who is behind this? It’s the great team at the online magazine, ‘Just as Beautiful’, who say they have been overwhelmed by the number of plus size women who have already applied for this opportunity.
