Q: You are actually making recommendation for Fall 2009 right now. How do you forecast so far in advance?
A: Well, fashion actually begins with Color & Fabric, which gets created 1 to 2 years in advance. So, I work with European color forecast services that set the trends for the upcoming seasons. I also attend fabric shows here in New York and in Paris which give us the direction that fabric will be going. Our design team adapts this information for each brand, focusing on their individual customers.

Q: But what about styles? How is that done?
A: We focus on the major trends in fashion that evolve from season to season. For example, the Global trend has been around for a few seasons now, each season has a new place of inspiration. We see it continue going forward, this time with a more Russian influence. With trends, it’s most important to stay true to the customer and not force a trend that isn’t right for her.

Q: How about plus-size fashion? Do you feel it keeps up with the trends?
A: One of our strongest efforts is to make sure we offer our customers the latest trends. We feel that being plus-size is not a restriction to being on trend. It’s not about size, but about attitude. Having a positive attitude is all you need to look good, and we design our collections with this mindset of not limiting our customer.

Check out the OneStopPlus fall 2008 collection today!

2007 was an eventful year for the plus size fashion industry, especially online. Last year was marked, amongst other things by appearances of full figured women on leading fashion catwalks… does the name Velvet d’Amour ring any bell?

The year which has just passed also meant much more fashion choice becoming available to plus size women, all over the world. In fact many new plus size clothing lines emerged, as well as online plus size stores, which continue to enrich the plus size fashion industry and most of all, add much more choice to curvy women.

In this post I’d like to take a quick look back at my favorite new stores, which either emerged or I got to know about, in 2007.

SWAK Designs: A true gem of an online store, which I am sure end up in the ‘Favorites’ list of those who visit it most of the time! SWAK Designs offers great apparel, which is curve hugging and curve flattering, for most occasions, and at very affordable prices. Whether you are looking for something casual to wear throughout the day, or something to wear at work, or even perhaps something sexy and sultry to wear on a night out or a hot first date, you will surely find it at SWAK Designs. Their collection online is a truly vast one, so I recommend that you do take your time to browse around all the items available at this online store. You don’t want to end up missing something now do you?!

Fashion Overdose: I must say, from the very first time I visited Fashion Overdose, it was added to my favorites list. However the plus size fashion you will find here might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and might even be a little bit too much to handle for some gals out there. But for those curvy ladies who embrace their ‘wild side’, and have a passion for punk, visiting Fashion Overdose is a must. The items found here are one of a kind, colorful, daring and will definitely get you noticed. This is the store I go to whenever I want something completely different, and I am feeling particularly daring and adventurous. My only qualm with this store is the online store and overall user experience with the website. It can definitely be improved with a little tweaks here and there, and even with broadband some items tale ages to load. But do not let that discourage you from exploring Fashion Overdose!

Mimi’s Curvy Corner: This is another little gem which I have discovered only recently. First of, I have had the chance to correspond with Mimi on a few occasions, and she is one sweet person who is completely dedicated to providing stylish plus size fashions, with a satisfying customer experience. That already puts my mind at rest, that this online store is managed by a plus size woman herself, whose aim is to provide full figured women with great fashion. At Mimi’s you will find both casual and evening wear, at great prices. Have a look for yourself! I very much hope more and more items are added to Mimi’s stores throughout 2008.

So there you have it, 2007’s best new stores, according to yours truly. The stores above have made giant leaps of success since I have started following them, and I am sure many more good things are yet to come. So let’s hope we hear more good stuff and see more curvalicious fashions from all of them in 2008.

Curvy Tip

Remember, you can look up the plus size clothing store to suit all your needs at http://www.pasazz.net – visit the directory and pass the link on to your friends!

At the height of winter, the only way to stay warm is to layer up. The key is to use thin layers, like long sleeved t-shirts, pointelle sweaters, and even tank tops with details. Top it all off with a belted jacket to create a slimming and warm look. But don’t forget about accessories! The right tote makes all the difference. Match your coat and bag to create a more cohesive outfit.

The fashion stars of winter 2007/2008 are a welcome beacon of shimmer, shine and pop of color in an often drab winter palette. 80′s glamour color palette, with updated flattering shapes, combined with the refined luxury of the 40′s have re-emerged throughout the fashion world to an applauding plus size audience.

Jewel tones hues for 2007/2008 are taking center stage, often times replacing the ever-present Little Black Dress as chic choices. Amethyst, cobalt, ruby and emerald are the universally flattering favorites, for all shapes and sizes. The standard myth that black slims, colors expand is being proven incorrect time and again with this gorgeous palette. Rich, saturated colors slim and flatter as well as their somber sister black and alternately, flatter the wearer’s coloring beautifully.

Choose quality fabric, in a rich tone designed to enhance your favorite feature. A beautiful plus size woman, wearing a pop of color in a sea of black is sure to add a little life to even the dullest of holiday hoop-lahs. Still choosing to stick with basic black dress? Add burst of color with bold amethyst satin Maryjane’s and a choice Kenneth Lane Cocktail ring and jeweled bangle set. Mix your accessory colors freely when wearing a solid black clothing palette for dramatic effect.

Shimmer and shine is no longer evening exclusive apparel, glittering choices for the season easily carry the wearer from day to night. Satin shimmering blouses are easily paired with sexy blazers for day and a sexy pair of metallic heels and bold cocktail jewelry for night. Jeweled detailing at the hem, neckline and sleeves add standout detailing to basic shapes we love. When wearing shimmer apply the same rules used with animal print; chose one garment to shine.

Modern opulence combined with the refinement of the 40′s creates an easy assumed elegance for the winter 2007/2008 season. Structured jackets, paired with high waisted trousers in tweeds and wool create the perfect foil when worn with a silk blouse in one of the afore mentioned jewel tones. Feminine curves have made a reappearance in winter design; the tailored styling, supple quality fabrics and flattering design have women with true feminine curves rejoicing.

Winter fashion this season personifies the confidence and empowerment of the modern plus size woman. Curves haven’t been targeted and celebrated in such an effective manner in decades and the shift is receiving a gracious welcome. Flattering choices for the curvy woman are aplenty this season, discriminating, bold fashion lovers, enjoy!

With the holidays rapidly approaching, many are searching for the perfect attire for seasonal parties. Making sure one is function appropriate often proves more difficult than finding a fabulous ensemble. The following definitions cover most of the party attire requirements seen during the holidays and guarantee you’ll look fab and function appropriate in whatever you chose.

Cocktail attire is a consistent party theme throughout the holidays. It’s name is derived quite aptly from the concept of people gathering prior to a formal dinner or event for cocktails. Appropriate attire consists of dresses, ranging from mid-thigh to one inch below the knee. Tailored pants suits are also appropriate, however consider avoiding a business standby, instead add accents in a vibrant color, chose a fitted cut or incorporate a suit created from a unique textile. Silk, Chatung, Brocade, Polyester, Cashmere, Rayon, Velour, Velvet and Velveteen are all appropriate cocktail fabrics and embellishments with beading and sequins are also appropriate.

Every so often, you will find yourself being asked to wear semi formal attire to such events as weddings and award ceremonies. This form of attire gets the most attention, but often because of its universal use. Many associate other forms of dress such as cocktail attire, with semi-formal. However, Semi-formal attire is much more formal than cocktail attire. Pants suits may be worn if refined in construction and dresses ranging from an inch above the knee to two inches above the ankle are appropriate. Taffeta, Chiffon, Silk, Satin, Sateen, Gossamer, Brocade, Rayon, Velour, Velvet, Velveteen are all appropriate semi-formal fabric choices.

Occasionally business formal dress requirements are seen, often in work related or political functions. Business formal is the same as semi formal, however women should chose more tailored dresses or pants suits. Slinky, sexy or revealing attire is generally best suited for a NON-business formal affair.

Black tie, or formal attire requires cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates. Pants suits or dress suits are rarely appropriate for formal wear. Dresses rage from knee length to ankle and may vary from a straight sheath to a full skirt and fitted bodice. Sequin and beaded embellishment is appropriate and the fabrics Taffeta, Chiffon, Silk, Satin, Sateen, Gossamer, Brocade, Rayon, Velour, Velvet, Velveteen are all considered the textile norm. Colors vary seasonally, with black remaining a consistent standby favorite.

Following the above guide to the holiday season party circuit is sure to assist you in looking fabulous, and function appropriate. If, or when in doubt, the stylist services at Velvet Siren are happy to provide attire suggestions. Happy Holidays and enjoy!

Well do not fret! Just give cold weather cold shoulder by equipping yourself with a great, big comfy, cosy and warm coat. OneStopPlus has a great selection of plus size coats available, up to size 44W! New wool, leather and suede coats for casual, dressy and career occasions have in fact recently been added to their stock. All in sizes 14W to 44W.

This collection of coats is truly a vast one. Do not get put off by the models OneStopPlus uses on their site, which are far from plus size. I must admit it was months until I warmed up to this online store, just because all the models used to display their clothing aren’t really big girls. But at least you have to OneStopPlus a tap on the back for honesty, and not getting these models all padded up, which would’ve been even worse. I just do not understand how they can use thin models when they are targeting ladies sizes 14 to 44. Anyways… rant over!

Do not get put off by the models really. It is truly just a detail. Do not let it get in the way of you enjoying the great selection of items available at OneStopPlus, as they really have a great variety of plus size clothing available.

This campaign’s goal is to make people re-think fashion. In order to bring curves back into what people think is the ‘norm’ the steps, and the philosophy that led up to certain ultra-skinny models appearing on the runways, change. As Liis and Diane correctly put it, they are there because the samples designers are making fit them. "Strengthening the fashion industry by broading its foundatio is the answer," to making change happen.

The website contains a number of resources which people can refer to, and which should serve as a guide to companies, shops, designers and people in general to start making those small steps needed to change the skinny stereotype.

According to Walk The Catwalk, the 4 basic challenges for the fashion world are the following:

Fashion schools: need to re-evaluate the philosophies being passed on to fashion students.

Designers: need to create one runway outfit for one or more of their upcoming fashion shows in a size 12 or higher to be worn by a curvy model.

Designers: need to create one sample size for a future collection in a size 12 or higher to be made available to magazines and the press, in order to encourage diversity.

Magazines: should feature one model size 12 or higher, in a minimum of one outfit, in a fashion editorial in an upcoming issue.

Visit the official Walk The Catwalk website for further details, and to pass this message on to a friend!

They managed to create simple yet chic and classic elegance made for the full figured body. The latest addition to their wonderful range of plus size dresses is the Sarafan dress, a dress which is set to win the hearts of many curvy women! It will also definitely be responsible for setting men’s hearts racing when they see full figured women looking gorgeous in this perfect summer dress.

Available in brown, magenta and fiery red the Sarafan dress from IGIGI is a chic yet daring dress. It incorporated adjustable, self-tie straps to ensure a perfect fit: you can set the straps as tight or loose as your desire. A plunging neckline dominates this dress, which gives it a very sexy feel and that is however not overly done. The key to a sexy and chic look is to always leave something to the imagination, and the Sarafan dress does this perfectly. It shows off a bit of leg, which you can help enhance further by wearing some nice sandals or mules with heels. The plunging neckline accentuates the bust area, and the V-neck back show off some more of the right skin. The rest of the curves are hugged to perfection.

This dress can be worn in two ways. With a belt (which is comes along with the dress… yes!), or else without the belt. I personally have a fear of belts… well not quite. I just never seem to be convinced they look good on me for some reason. Though I can see why this dress would make more of an impression if worn with the belt: besides giving the curvy figure a more defined waist, the belt also helps add that extra sense of style.

So why do I like this dress so much?

It is very simple yet very elegant. The simplicity helps flatter the curvy figure, and makes it very versatile.

Also, in my opinion this dress has a slight retro vibe to it. Is it the colors perhaps?

The color choices are vibrant and so fitting for that Spring/Summer feeling. I personally am not very fond of the brown version of this dress, then again this boils down to tastes.

Any plus size women wearing this dress is bound to stand out… for all the right reasons!

So ladies, I am off to buy my own Sarafan dress. I am still undecided on whether to buy the Magenta version or Fiery Red. What do you suggest?

I will definitely update you on my choice very soon! In the meantime take a closer look at the Sarafan dress at IGIGI.

If you aren’t familiar with the convertible dress, this is a unique plus size dress designed by Monif C, herself, which basically incorporates tens of dresses all into one! Why? Because the dress ties up in several different ways… Monif C. in fact has counted 22 different ways to tie up the dress so far. If you feel like a halter dress one day, and a baby doll top the next, you can get both looks through this extremely stylish and versatile plus size dress.

The new instructional video which has just been launched was created to help out both customers who have purchase the convertible dress and those who haven’t yet because they think they won’t be able to figure out how to wear the dress. Now you can easily learn different ways how to wear the dress, as Monif C. herself demonstrates several different styles on a plus size model on this new video. So there’s definitely no more excuses for not to wear or get yourself the Monif C. convertible dress. Check out the video and get the dress before it sells out.
