Pasazz.net
interviews Janelle Jackson, the woman behing popular plus size fashion
and lingerie websites BigGalsLingerie.com and DesignerCurves.com
Pasazz.net
strives to bring you an up close and personal look at some of the women
in the plus size fashion industry who are helping to provide full
figured women with a vast choice in clothing. This month we meet an
exceptional lady, Janelle Jackson, the mind behind (what in our opinion
is) the sexiest and most daring plus size lingerie store
online, BigGalsLingerie.com.
JJ, as she prefers being called, is also the woman behind DesignerCurves.com.
Pasazz.net proudly presents JJ!
Pasazz: Where
are you from and where did you grow up?
JJ: Arkansas.
Pasazz: Were you a big child, or
did you gain weight later in life?
JJ: I was a skinny child until I hit puberty and then I
blossomed into a big girl as I became a teenager.
Pasazz: What caused you to gain weight and how did you feel about it?
JJ: I think some of it is hereditary. All of my family is
big. I wouldn't say I was really, really big but when I was a teenager
I thought I was very, very big but looking back at pictures, I see I
wasn't too big; I was about a size 14/16 or so until I graduated from
high school. Then I was about a size 18. I didn't really put much
thought into my size. I mean I knew I was bigger and wished I was
skinny but I didn't dwell on it and my family never made a big deal out
of it.
Pasazz: Did you find it a hard journey to be accepted for your size?
JJ: I never really focused on my size when I was a
teenager or young adult. But I did not think of myself the same way
back then as I do today. Today I see myself for what I am: a sexy,
smart, kind and hotter than heck big chick but I had to accept myself
for what I was and get comfortable with myself and forget about what
anyone else thought about me. Until I started my new way of thinking, I
was a shy, insecure, and reluctant girl who wasn't sure of herself and
even though I didn't go day to day thinking about my weight I can
definitely look back and say that until I accepted my size and changed
my way of thinking I was holding myself back emotionally.
Pasazz: Do you find acceptance among your family and friends?
JJ: Yes! And I’m thankful for that. I have a
wonderful family, fantastic size positive friends.
Pasazz: What is your job at
Dare2Dream Enterprises and JRJ Enterprises (& the other web
store you manage)?
JJ: I started the companies and I run and manage both.
Right now I have the flagship online store http://www.BigGalsLingerie.com
for plus size lingerie and risqué club wear and naughty
wear; and just started the http://www.DesignerCurves.com
store which is more regular type street clothing for plus sizes.
Pasazz: Are you the founder of these companies? If so, how did their
conception come about?
JJ: Yes I am the founder and it all came about because
after accepting myself for my size I wanted to get out and party and
look good but came up empty handed every time I visited the mall or
stores. Out of frustration I decided to do something about it. I wanted
to offer items for the plus size girl who knows she's hot, and sexy,
and beautiful and wants to flaunt their curves and doesn't care what
anyone thinks because they know they are hot.
Now I know some of the club wear styles are a little risqué.
I know some of you out there are saying that we big girls
shouldn’t wear some of the styles that I offer on BigGalsLingerie.com
but I say... it doesn't matter what you think I should wear...
It’s what I want to wear… And I want the
opportunity to buy anything that a skinny chick can buy. Perhaps I want
to buy something to wear at home for my man, a sexy revealing dress or
lingerie item, or maybe I need a stunning unique costume for a party,
or a string bikini for the BBW bash this summer in Vegas, or a long
feather trimmed coat, or maybe I’m a plus size dancer or
entertainer that needs clothing that is hot and sexy. Then you need to
stop by BigGalsLingerie.com
we are not for the closed minded girl who isn't comfortable with
themselves. We are here for the BBW diva who wants to make an
impression! We encourage your curves and we want you to have what all
the skinny chicks are buying.
Pasazz: What is the greatest satisfaction working in the plus size
fashion industry?
JJ: Giving big girls the same opportunities to buy what
all the skinny chicks are wearing. Making the playing field a little
more equal and seeing that yes there are tons of hot and sexy guys out
there that want to see us wearing these hot clothes and they email me
all the time thanking me for having clothing that their girls will look
so sexy in because our men want to see us big girls in these sexy hot
styles just as much as we want to wear them. Just knowing that there
are lots of happy women out there and lots of happy men out there
wearing something they might have thought would not ever be available
for them is very satisfying. And since we custom make all of the club
wear and diva wear styles we can make them in any size you need them
in. So if you are a size 12X and you need a see thru mesh tube dress
for your romantic evening with your special someone... we can make it
for you!
Pasazz: You also run a popular size positive blog at Forbiggirlsonly.com.
What initially made you decide to start blogging? And what is the aim
of your blog?
JJ: Basically I just wanted an outlet to put my
personality down and so if anyone wanted to get to know the real me
they could stop by read a little bit, take a look at my modelling
pictures and see how sexy and smart BBW's can be. I also wanted to show
the non believers that yes... us big girls are hotter than heck too. I
also wanted to put down relevant information for the BBW community and
also serve as an informational resource for the plus size community.
Getting the word out about plus size events, BBW clubs, parties,
resources, clothing sales, auctions etc… I also started a
Plus Size Fashion Bulletin Board. A nice little plus size oriented
community where we share our thoughts and ideas about being plus size,
talk about fashion, and chit chat about whatever comes to mind. Because
it's hard enough to be comfortable in mainstream society when you are
big so I want to provide a spot where we big girls can chit chat and be
admired by guys who find us attractive. The bulletin board is located
at: http://www.biggalslingerie.com/board/index.php.
My blog is here:
http://www.forbiggirlsonly.com/blog/index.php.
Pasazz: Do you have any
experience in modelling? If so tell us about what you have done.
JJ: I have zero experience in modelling but I
occasionally take to the camera when I want to show off my clothing
styles at BigGalsLingerie.com.
Other than modelling for my own ventures I have no experience.
Pasazz: It takes a lot of confidence to model... What has
given you the confidence you have?
JJ: Since I do get in front of the camera in my
risqué styles for my own sites I do have to have some
confidence. I get allot of positive feedback from people who see them
and this helps me. Knowing that people are enjoying my pictures and
people sending me emails telling me how thankful they are that I use
real plus size girls in the photos helps me a lot when I get in front
of the camera.
Pasazz: What do you think about the fashion industry for big sized
clothing?
JJ: I think they are moving in the right direction but
I’d like to see more trendy styles in plus sizes.
I’m 32 but I still like to wear the trendy styles and am not
ready to wear the stuff my mother wears just yet... so please... bring
on more plus size trendy styles!
Pasazz: Where do you regularly shop for your clothing?
JJ: I like Torrid, Avenue,
and Old
Navy for jeans, I also like this store called Wave at the
local mall... they have lots of trendy plus size styles. Of course when
I’m not shopping BigGalsLingerie.com and DesignerCurves.com
:)
Pasazz: What do you wish to see change with the fashion industry?
JJ: Stop saying that size 10 girls are plus size models!!
A plus size model should start at size 18.
Pasazz: What changes do you think will happen if plus sized modelling
for men and women were to expand?
JJ: More job opportunities for models and more fashions
for us women to buy up! Perhaps we will be more accepted into today's
society.
Pasazz: What would you say inspires you most in life?
JJ: My 3 children and wanting to give them everything I
can and for them to have a proud and successful parent to look up to.
Pasazz: Give us a sentence that
inspires you.
JJ: "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."
Pasazz:
Can you tell us about an inspirational moment in you life that made you
feel good about your size?
JJ: Whenever I get an email or message from a young plus
size girl and she thanks me for having the courage to get out there and
show the world how sexy big girls can be that makes me really happy and
I feel good about being big and having the courage to show it off and
giving other girls courage to believe in themselves and to start
thinking positively about themselves and their bodies.
Pasazz: Is there a person in your life that makes you keep going?
JJ: My 3 kids.
Pasazz: What plus size figure do you admire?
JJ: Mo'nique! I love her and with her plus size beauty
contest, she's trying to put the big girls out there for America to
see... hey... we are sexy too!
Pasazz: Describe yourself with one word.
JJ: Divalicious!
We greatly thank JJ for taking the time out of her busy schedule to
provide Pasazz.net and all our readers with this insightful interview.
We wish JJ all the best of luck for the future; We're sure her online
ventures will continue to be as successful as they already have been,
and on behalf of all the daring and sexy plus size women out there we
thank you for providing us a raunchy selection of plus size lingerie!
