I Got Married!

This is going to a ‘personal type’ post, so apologies in advance if this doesn’t interest you much, but for the regulars around here, I thought of updating you on the biggest event for me in 2009, my wedding! This is quite a long overdue post actually, but better late than never right? I never got round to posting about it due to being extremely busy. But finally, here goes.

So after 4 years of datingIn my wedding dress Mr N, we got hitched last October. Many months of preparation led up to a perfect day. We had what some might call a traditional Maltese wedding, though I like to think we added our own personal twist to it. We wanted things to be extra special, bot not too fussy either. We got married in church, then a standing reception followed. The ‘traditional’ style of wedding here in Malta is a standing reception, although some coupled opt to have have seated weddings too. We opted for a standing reception as we wanted to make the most of mingling around with the guests, and spend as much time as possible dancing away to the great band we had playing.

You’re probably asking… did you get your wedding dress online?! Well, although I was seriously considering it, I ended up not getting it online. I spent countless hours online shopping, seeing the different styles available, and selecting my favorites. Then I said, I must go to a local store, just to see what they have, and try different styles out to see what suits me. Well I ended up only going to one store and buying the first dress I tried on! It was like love at first sight. I knew it was for me, and once I like something, I am pretty quick at making decisions and knowing that something is for me. So I knew it was it. I tried on a few dresses after that, but those only made me want the first one more. It had all the qualities I was looking for. I didn’t want the usual full ball gown type of dress, I wanted something more fitting, with some sparkle. This dress had beautiful ruching on the top part, which helps soooo much in hiding any tummy flaws. It has straps adorned with Swarovski crystals too, so I got my dose of sparkle there. I was in love with this dress. Still am actually! ;-)

The store obviously did not have my size available, so they had to order it from Italy, and have it made to measure. After 4 months of waiting, I went for my first fitting and the dress fit like a glove. I was extremely lucky, as I chose a store with impeccable customer service. They created the dress just for my body, and did not stick to a size chart. So I was very happy with that. Then I had a custom shrug created, as I needed it for church, and it was made beautifully.

What I did get online however, was pretty much everything else! I got the dresses for my bridesmaids and flower girls online, through NetBride from Eden Bridals. Again the service at NetBride was second to none. They answered my questions very quickly prior to making my purchase, and followed up with regular updates for me once I made the purchase. I received the dresses before their expected delivery dates. So thank goodness everything went smoothly. We did have to adjust the hemlines of the dresses, and taken them in slightly at the waist, but otherwise I was very happy with everything.

What else did I get online? I got my headpiece from eBay! It was a bargain, hand made and turned out to be beautiful. I also got the men’s ties for Soprano Ties in the UK. I also got the confetti boxes we used for wedding favors from eBay, and the personalized ribbon we used to tie these up was from eBay as well.

Oh and I almost forgot one very essential detail. I got all my invitations from Wedding Paper Divas, which I highly recommend. They processed my order at the speed of light! I actually received my order at home, before I got the actual email from them to advise me that my order had been shipped. Now that’s service!

I did not get my shoes online. I happened to be in London a few months before the wedding, so I managed to find something I liked at the Bridal Rouge Gallery. The lady there was so helpful. I told her what size I need and she just got out one pair, after pair, after pair of shoes in my size, until I found the one I liked. I must have tried on over 30 pairs that day, at that store alone.

It was such a perfect day. I admit it was quite a stressful experience, as trying to get everything done in time and making sure everything is near perfect is quite hectic. Though it was all worthwhile in the end. We loved every minute of it, and the day flew by!

I’ll leaved you to some photos from the day…

Tips For The Plus Size Bride

You have already put a whole lot of time and effort into the planning of your wedding and now it is time for you to find the wedding dress of your dreams. When you are a bride-to-be that has a curvy figure, then it is best to find a terrific plus size bridal gown that flatters your body and gives you an incredible look. Today more than ever there are plenty of amazing wedding dresses available for the plus size bride, you simply have to know where to look and the best style to fit your particular body type.

If you think about it, any wedding dress no matter what size you are should be just right in every aspect. The perfect dress will help to bring out your very best features while helping you to disguise some of those that you would not rather have noticed. Never be afraid to try on any number of dresses until you find just the right one. After all, this is your special day so it is imperative that you are extremely pleased with how your wedding dress makes you look and feel.

When you are a bride that is bigger in the bust area, then you may want to look for a gorgeous gown that has a larger skirt, such as the ballerina style. The flare at the bottom will help to even out your large bust and completely round out the look. Additionally, if you have a larger bust line than your waist, you are considered to have what is called an apple shaped figure. This can be addressed with a neckline that is in the shape of a v. The plunge here will give you just enough of a distraction!

After you choose your dress, make sure that you have everything else that is needed for your big day. Many plus size brides will have an issue with their shoes being too tight. If you cannot find a wide size to fit your feet comfortably, then think about having the shoes stretch by a local shoe store or even your bridal shop where you purchased your wedding dress. This extra comfort will go a long way during your big day. Do not forget an extra pair of white flip flops or satin slippers that match your gown just in case your shoes do give you a hard time!

Top 4 Plus Size Wedding Dress Trends for 2009

If you’ll be getting married in 2009, you’ll want to start thinking about your wedding dress early. After all, this isn’t just another party.Style #1142W It’s the most important day of your life and you want to look your best. Selecting the right wedding dress takes a lot of thought and planning. You’ll want to choose the dress that’s most comfortable and flattering to you, but being aware of wedding dress trends for spring 2009 can help you make the difficult decision of which dress to buy for this important day. Here are some of the wedding dress trends that are being shown for 2009:

1. Shorter Dresses
If the look of the traditional wedding dress has never really appealed to you, you can be ultra chic and modern on your wedding day with a short wedding dress. Shorter wedding dresses being shown for 2009 have fitted bodices with full skirts that stop at or just above the knee. Many are strapless or have thin spaghetti straps. These dresses may be appealing if you’ll be having a casual, outdoor wedding and if you have the figure to carry it off. Of course, many women will prefer the more traditional look of a floor length wedding dress.

2. One Shoulder Dresses
The one shouldered gown so popular for winter 2009 has extended over into wedding dresses for the upcoming season. This chic, distinctively modern look in wedding dress appeals to those who like a slightly less traditional look.

3. Detailing
Spring 2009 wedding dresses emphasize detailing with added embellishments such as subtle beading, ribbons, bows, and, of course, lace. This distinctively feminine look is played up by the contrast of soft chiffon and silk fabrics that flow with the body. Look for subtle detailing that’s both ultra-feminine, Style #7435yet elegant. These small added details and embellishments can be immensely flattering if not overdone.

4. Vibrant Color
Yes, white is still the traditional favorite when it comes to wedding dresses but color is the new trend for 2009. Not only will softer pastel shades be popular but warmer splashes of color including scarlet red make their appearance. On the runway, designers showed wedding dresses in brilliant shades of crimson with gold accents designed for the bolder, less traditional bride. If this look is too overwhelming, you can add subtle color by selecting a dress in a pale pastel such as lavender. This is one year you don’t need to be afraid to embrace your love of color when it comes to selecting bridal wear.

With so many choices when it comes to wedding dress trends for 2009, you’ll have lots of options available to you when you make the important decision of what to wear on your wedding day. Enjoy making your selection!

How to Find a Wedding Gown for your Unique Curvy Figure

IGIGI Plus Size Charming Romance Wedding GownWe come in many shapes and sizes, but when it comes to shopping for a wedding dress, dresses are usually directed towards thinner brides.  How does a curvier bride find a flattering dress that enhances her figure?  Use these tips for a happier shopping experience.

Choose the Right Style
There are flattering styles for all body styles.  If you’re a curvy woman with a pear-shaped body, stay away from this:

  1. Empire Waist wedding gowns: These gowns head straight down — straight down to your hips, that is.  Stay away from A-line gowns.  They don’t flatter your curvy physique and emphasize your thighs.
  2. Mermaid wedding gowns: These are a bit too snug on pear-shaped bodies.  It makes curvy bodies look bloated and out of shape.

For pear-shaped bodies, try a loose, simple gown.  It should have a nice, wide flair.  If you wear a sash, make sure it’s on your waistline so it flatters your unique curves.  Best wedding gown styles: Ball Gown, Princess or A-Line.

If you’re an apple-shaped woman, finding a flattering gown that doesn’t emphasize your midsection is tough.  Here’s what you should stay away from:

  1. Mermaid wedding gowns: This draws attention to your midsection.  Avoid it if possible.
  2. Sheath wedding gowns: Sheath gowns are a straight, long gown which flatter thinner, longer body types.  This is a bad choice for apple-shaped women – avoid it if you can.

An apple-shaped woman should try gowns that flare out significantly.  It minimizes the midsection and gives the illusion of pear-shaped curves, flattering the body.  Best wedding gown styles: Empire Waist, Ball Gown, A-Line or Princess.

Choose the Right Texture
Believe it or not, a gown’s texture makes the different between a beautiful, curvaceous bride and a frumpy, heavy bride.  For both body types choose lightly textured fabric.  Avoid beading if you can.  You want to keep the design minimalistic so that it adds depth, not distraction.

For ball wedding gowns, make sure the design isn’t a dark color.  Keep away from flowery textures and avoid top-heavy textures.

For A-Line or Princess wedding gowns, make sure the design is emphasized in the middle to flatter your figure.

Empire wedding gowns should have a light texture.  Make sure it’s simple but elegant.

Choose the Right Neckline
Choosing a bad neckline is very unflattering for your chest.  If you have a large chest, choose these necklines:

  • Queen Anne
  • Strapless
  • Scoop
  • Square
  • Sweetheart

If you have a medium-sized chest, choose these necklines:

  • V-Neck
  • Spaghetti Straps
  • Scoop
  • Square
  • Sabrina

If you have a small chest, choose these necklines:

  • Jewel
  • Bateau
  • Sabrina
  • Spaghetti Straps
  • Strapless

Bring these tips with you when you shop for your gown to ensure a happy, easier experience.

Evans Launches Bridal Collection

Evans, the UK’s leading highstreet plus size store, and the top curvy store here in Malta (in my opinion!), has just launched an elegant and unique plus size bridal wear collection to their selection of offerings.

Plus size bridalThis new bridal collection, includes several statement dresses that start at £120. Among the items available you will find a taffeta prom dress, a hand beaded and embroidered wrap dress and a silk chiffon mix and satin full length empire line dress with brooch detail. If you are looking for something a little less formal there are two piece outfits starting from £45 that include a duchess satin skirt with bustier and lace cover up, a silver jacquard pencil skirt and jacket and a beaded satin and silk chiffon angel sleeve cami top.

Commenting on the new range, Buying Director Sue Vandenberghe says: “At Evans we believe every woman should celebrate their curves. Our research showed that there was a limited size range available for most bridal wear on the highstreet and with the average size of a woman in the UK being a 16 we realised there was a demand from our customer for something special to wear on their wedding day.

Once you have chosen the right dress it is important to complement your outfit with the right accessories. The footwear range includes a satin sling back sandal with brooch detail and a pintuck detail satin shoe and for that finishing touch there is also a beautiful range of hair accessories that includes a feather fascinator and jewelled tiara.

The new plus size bridal wear collection is available from size 14 to 32 and will be featured in 12 stores throughout the UK and online at http://www.evans.co.uk. So if you are a bride-to-be looking for the perfect dress, make sure you add Evans to your wedding wish list before you take your vows.
